Ecological Systems Theory The Ecological System Theory

According to Burns, M. K., Warmbold-Brann, K., Zaslofsky, A. F, in order to fully understand an individual, â€Å"the environment in which the individual lives must be fully examined including the home, school, community, and culture† (2015). This form of approach is known as the ecological systems theory also referred to as person in environment. Additionally, the ecological theory utilizes various systems, such as micro, mezzo and macro to analyze how individuals are influenced by their environment (Burns, M. K., Warmbold-Brann, K., Zaslofsky, A. F., 2015). The factors being examined to understand an individual, fall either under micro, mezzo, or macro level. Additionally, individuals are not shaped by only one experience in their life;†¦show more content†¦Bree identifies as a woman and has recently undergone sex reassignment surgery. Bree’s age is currently unknown; however, she appears to be middle aged. Bree is economically stable, she is a waitress at a Mexican Restaurant in her town, her income allows her to live independently from her biological family. Presently, Bree is single and is renting an apartment by herself. She maintains her apartment clean and organized. Although, Bree is single she mentioned she met someone who captured her interests. Bree identified him as Calvin, whom gave bree his contact information; however, Bree has yet to reach out. Biophysical Functioning Bree’s physical appearance can be described as clean and well-dressed. Overall, Bree’s medical health is good, she does not display any physical disability that hinders her day to day routine. However, she has gone through a series of treatments in the process of changing her gender. The client has had facial feminization surgery, jaw recontouring, forehead reduction, three years of hormone therapy, and brow lift. Cognitive Functioning The client is an extremely intelligent and educated individual, she attended college but has yet to complete the requirements for a specific major. Bree enjoys learning which is why she has not chosen one specific area of focus in school. Additionally, the client can clearly articulate her goals and needs. This presents Bree as high functioning individual, she has no evident cognitive impairments.
