According to Burns, M. K., Warmbold-Brann, K., Zaslofsky, A. F, in order to fully understand an individual, â€Å"the environment in which the individual lives must be fully examined including the home, school, community, and culture† (2015). This form of approach is known as the ecological systems theory also referred to as person in environment. Additionally, the ecological theory utilizes various systems, such as micro, mezzo and macro to analyze how individuals are influenced by their environment (Burns, M. K., Warmbold-Brann, K., Zaslofsky, A. F., 2015). The factors being examined to understand an individual, fall either under micro, mezzo, or macro level. Bree’s age is currently unknown; however, she appears to be middle aged. Bree is economically stable, she is a waitress at a Mexican Restaurant in her town, her income allows her to live independently from her biological family. Presently, Bree is single and is renting an apartment by herself. She maintains her apartment clean and organized. Although, Bree is single she mentioned she met someone who captured her interests. Bree identified him as Calvin, whom gave bree his contact information; however, Bree has yet to reach out. Biophysical Functioning Bree’s physical appearance can be described as clean and well-dressed. Overall, Bree’s medical health is good, she does not display any physical disability that hinders her day to day routine. However, she has gone through a series of treatments in the process of changing her gender. The client has had facial feminization surgery, jaw recontouring, forehead reduction, three years of hormone therapy, and brow lift. Cognitive Functioning The client is an extremely intelligent and educated individual, she attended college but has yet to complete the requirements for a specific major. Bree enjoys learning which is why she has not chosen one specific area of focus in school. Additionally, the client can clearly articulate her goals and needs. The process to ensuring equality between men and women started a few decades back. However, despite the steps taken towards equality, we are still far from been able to say that equality exist regarding women right to gain entrance to all spheres of society (Fabrega, 2009). Findings 1. 1 Perform Cognitive Tasks Better Several researches were undertaken in the past 20 years; to prove bilingual children are superior to monolingual kids. In the recent past, Ioulia Kovelman and Ellen Bialystok, PhD student of York University, Canada evaluated children aged between 4-6 years. During their research, they made two core groups, one group was monolingual who were fluent in their native language . i. e. French or English and another; group was bilingual (with proficiency in both the languages, written and oral). The idea was to test cognitive ability of the core group for which â€Å"Simon Task† method was considered. It is a universal method practised by scientists to understand how human mind functions and performs certain tasks. The aim was to understand how kids respond to different colours and visuals. Hence, kids were asked to separate different shapes as per their colour and size, generated by computer which popped up from different sides of the screen. Results were surprising as bilingual children were more accurate than monolingual group. Study depicts that bilingual brain functions faster and has divergent thinking skills which allows brain to recognize and differentiate different objects at the same time. Therefore, bilingual children tend to be smarter than monolingual peers and perform cognitive tasks better. . 2 More Creative with Analytical Abilities A research conducted by Dr Lauchlan in Scotland and Sardinia, Italy- 121 children under age of 9 were taken in a group with monolingual and bilingual abilities, and were asked to perform different mathematical, creative, linguistic and physical assignments. The emphasis was to evaluate how children respond to different tasks. The bilingual learnerâ⠂¬â„¢s performance and intellectual capabilities were significantly higher i. e. As stated in 2006 Canadian census, knowledge of French and English provide more job opportunities as compared to knowledge of French or English alone. This is an era of globalization, where most of the organizations are multinational. Hence, organizations prefer to hire employees who are proficient in different languages and understand diverse cultures. 1. 4 Brain Development â€Å"Children who learn a second language before the age of five have been shown to have denser grey matter in their brains than their monolingual peers† (Dai, 2012).
